UNIFEM Fraud Alert .
It has come to the attention of UNIFEM that fraudulent e-mail messages have been circulating the Internet. The messages, allegedly from UNIFEM or UNIFEM staff members, state falsely that recipients have been selected to receive money awards from UNIFEM and ask recipients for their personal and bank account information. Please note that UNIFEM does not provide money awards to individuals nor does it request personal or banking information through e-mail messages. Such messages are “phishing scams” designed to steal recipients’ identities and money. We urge recipients not to reply to them — please report and forward them to scamalert@undp.org
 

Almas Jiwani, President of United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Canada Honored in Greece .
In a spectacular high-profile ceremony organized by Nikitas Kaklamanis, Mayor of Athens and the EAWC President Ms. Loula Alafoyianni, Ms. Jiwani was bestowed with the 2010 Artemis Award recognizing her endeavours to promote cross-cultural dialogue and humanitarian development of women across the world. Almas Jiwani, President of United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Canada Honored in Greece

July 7th 2010 - Almas Jiwani, a noted Canadian entrepreneur, President and CEO of Frontier Canada Inc., and the President of
the Canadian National Committee of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM Canada), was recognized today for her continuous and exceptional work in eliciting awareness of
equal rights for women and encouraging the empowerment of women. This morning, Ms. Jiwani was one of 6 distinguished honourees bestowed with the "Goddess Artemis Award", in Athens, Greece, at the Euro-American Women's Council's (EAWC) lavish red carpet ceremony recognizing her endeavours in promote cross-cultural dialogue and humanitarian development of women across the world.

Almas Jiwani, a noted Canadian entrepreneur, President and CEO of Frontier Canada Inc., and the President of the Canadian National Committee of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM Canada), was recognized today for her continuous and exceptional work in eliciting awareness of equal rights for women and encouraging the empowerment of women. This morning, Ms. Jiwani was one of 6 distinguished honourees bestowed with the "Goddess Artemis Award", in Athens, Greece, at the Euro-American Women's Council's (EAWC) lavish red carpet ceremony recognizing her endeavours in promote cross-cultural dialogue and humanitarian development of women across the world.

In accordance with this Award, Ms. Jiwani will also be inducted into the Women's Hall of Fame, on July 13, 2010, at the Goddess Artemis birthplace, on the sacred island of Delos.

Loula Loi Alafoyiannis, Founder & Executive Global President of EAWC, Ministers, Members of Hellenic Parliament, Mayors, Ambassadors from several countries, dignitaries and celebrities were among other government officials gathered at the historic Zappeion Megaron Pavillion to honour the recipients of this prestigious Award.

Loula Loi Alafoyiannis, in relation to today's honourees stated, "we welcome our honourees who bridge nations, cultures and make a difference in our world." When asked why Ms. Jiwani was selected for this award, Ms. Alafoyiannis stated "I am fully aware of Almas' global achievements, especially her contributions to the UN, developing countries and her professional work as well. Almas' strong leadership in connecting women worldwide of an enabling environment is unique. Her name is really a carte blanche and it is a privilege for us and the Government of Greece to honor such stature among the other distinguished honourees receiving the Goddess Artemis Award today."

In celebrating the conferral of this esteemed Award upon their leader, members of the Board of Directors of UNIFEM Canada stated that "Ms. Jiwani truly exemplifies what the Goddess Artemis Award is all about: spectacular personal achievements, continuous promotion of the empowerment of women, and a great passion to create a better understanding of, and relationships between, cultures and across borders. She most definitely serves as a true epitome of role models for our future generations."

This conferral marks a momentous occasion for UNIFEM (worldwide) and also for Canada as Ms. Jiwani is the first global UNIFEM member and the second Canadian in the award's history to have this Award bestowed upon her and first Canadian to be inducted in Women's Hall of Fame. Furthermore, Ms. Jiwani is the first Ismaili – follower of His Highness the Aga Khan selected as a recipient of this prominent honour.
