UNIFEM Fraud Alert .
It has come to the attention of UNIFEM that fraudulent e-mail messages have been circulating the Internet. The messages, allegedly from UNIFEM or UNIFEM staff members, state falsely that recipients have been selected to receive money awards from UNIFEM and ask recipients for their personal and bank account information. Please note that UNIFEM does not provide money awards to individuals nor does it request personal or banking information through e-mail messages. Such messages are “phishing scams” designed to steal recipients’ identities and money. We urge recipients not to reply to them — please report and forward them to scamalert@undp.org

Beijing Platform for Action

OVERVIEW
The Fourth World Conference on Women was convened by the United Nations in 1995 in Beijing. The aim of the conference was to assess progress since the Nairobi World Conference on Women in 1985 and to adopt a platform for action, concentrating on key issues identified as obstacles to the advancement of women in the world.

The Conference focussed on 12 areas of concern and adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in order to address these concerns.

In 2000 the Beijing+5 reviewed the progress of the 12 areas of concern and found that the goals had not been fully achieved and as a result further committed themselves to achieving the goals set out in 1995. Beijing+10 continued to review the status of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action.

On March 2010, the United Nations conducted a thorough review of the Beijing+15 at the Commission on the Status of Women.
